Map, venue and event data, licenses

Last updated: October 1, 2026

What changed in this version

  • First English version.
  • Added attribution for event sources and images.
  • Added Natural Earth (coverage boundaries) and SIL Open Font License (fonts).
  • Added user-added venues.

Kor builds its own map and venue list from open datasets and gets events from event platforms. Below is where each kind of data comes from and under which license it is used.

Map and district boundaries

Kor's map imagery and district boundaries are derived from OpenStreetMap data. © OpenStreetMap contributors. This data is used under the Open Database License (ODbL 1.0); full license text: opendatacommons.org/licenses/odbl/1-0. Map tiles are produced with Protomaps, which is based on the same OpenStreetMap data.

The coverage boundaries of the countries Kor serves (Türkiye and the United States) are derived from Natural Earth 1:10m data (public domain).

Venue list

The venue list comes from the Overture Maps Foundation “Places” dataset: © Overture Maps Foundation, overturemaps.org. Records are used under the license of their source:

Notice of changes: the data was converted to the Overture schema by the Overture Maps Foundation. Kor has filtered the records (a confidence threshold; only nightlife, cafe and restaurant types), mapped their types to its own categories and merged duplicates of the same venue.

Some older venue records come from OpenStreetMap: © OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL 1.0. Some venues were added by Kor users.

OpenStreetMap, the Overture Maps Foundation and Foursquare are not our service providers: we download and use their public datasets. None of your data is sent to them and your location is never sent to them.

Events

Event details and images are obtained, in line with their terms of use, from: Ticketmaster, SeatGeek, Bandsintown, Fever, etkinlik.io, Bugece and Xceed. Event names, images and trademarks belong to the respective sources and rights holders. Images are resized and converted on our server so they display correctly in the app; they are not stored permanently. Tickets are bought on the source's own site under its own terms.

Fonts

Nunito Sans (© The Nunito Sans Project Authors) and the Noto Sans fonts used on the map are licensed under the SIL Open Font License 1.1.
